2009 - 2013ALYH ABOVE is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher and worldbuilder constructing artistic research projects aimed toward studying, expressing, and reflecting on The Human Experience as Creative Process and its role in black fulfillment.

Native to West Palm Beach, FL and currently creating out of Philadelphia, PA, their work is expressed through music, writing, production, design, film, archive, theory, philosophy, and creative liberation strategy. Since 2015, ALYH ABOVE’s practice has used art, creative research, worldbuilding and the study of Life as Art to honor and proliferate black fulfillment.

At current, they are developing their worldbuilding studio, here + human, which equips artists and cultural workers to create the world(s) we need next. Through here + human’s non-linear educational, artistic, and archival offerings, ALYH intends to help seed liberative change. They are also crafting existentia. — the name of both a speculative world and an art-journal made up of black fulfillment ephemera.


WHY FULFILLMENT?
Fulfillment has always been a form of black resistance. We have always decided that we were going to thrive anyway, whether that meant subverting dehumanizing systems to serve us, or creating our own. We have used this form of resistance to create worlds within this world — ones that can support and preserve the fullness of our humanity.

here + human is a worldbuilding studio that exists to help us locate ourselves within the ever-changing context of our humanity, and use that clarity to create the world(s) that we need next.

Mission: Equipping worldbuilders in crafting lives of “creative refusal” that will seed liberative change across humanity.

Vision: To build realities that support the fullness of our humanity. Creating the world(s) we need next.
Existential Artistry is a form of worldbuilding seeded by ALYH ABOVE that focuses on the inherent creativity of the human experience, and seeks to honor it devotionally as art-ifact and creative process. In Existential Artistry, worldbuilding is defined (by ALYH ABOVE) as the sacred creative practice by which we actualize our humanity into an intentional living experience. It is a form of intimate relationship with (self, other and) life in which we actively become the structures that hold and shape our human experience.

Existential Artistry is also an active study of The Human Experience as Creative Process, where we can be seen in conversation with life, impacting life with our responses to it and allowing it to impact us, as we co-create iterative realities.

in the midst of oppressive living systems which have chosen our relationship with life for us — a relationship that is often violent, abusive, disjointed and constricting — it is imperative that we have worlds retreat to (and eventually, live in) when our humanity inevitably decides to divest from the extractive templates that have been used to frame our lives. here + human is helping us learn how to become the builders of the worlds our humanity needs most.
